This Games showed the world the very best of what London and the UK has to offer – from a vibrant new Olympic Park to a summer-long cultural festival, from scenic landscapes to big business and flourishing trade.

Economic boost

  • over £7 billion of contracts were generated by the Olympic Delivery Authority, with businesses creating tens of thousands of new jobs
  • studies have estimated the Games created a net benefit to the economy of at least £Xbn
  • businesses working on the Games set new standards for equality and inclusion, health and safety, sustainability and accessible design
  • employment and training programmes, like ‘Women into Construction’, equipped minority groups, people with disabilities and those who were previously unemployed with new, sustainable skills in construction and other areas
  • the GREAT campaign highlighted the UK as an extraordinary destination to  visit, study, work, invest and do business
  • an army of volunteers were enthused to use their spare time productively, inspiring a new way of looking at volunteering
